In the final article in our ‘Five Fingers of Death’ series, John Lawson explores brand awareness and how retailers can best target audiences via social media.
We have reached the final article of this series, and the fifth finger of death is brand awareness.
There are many questions surrounding this topic and how best to work it via the social channels. With numerous avenues to choose from, whether it be e-marketing, social media, or traditional marketing methods, how can businesses work on choosing the right branding options for them? How do things like the site “How sociable” come into play? How do businesses best leverage social media?
Your customers will tell you what they need if you find where they are. Use social media to listen and detect where they talk about what is important to them. The first question you want to ask is, “Where are my customers talking?” Once you have found where they are and heard what they are talking about, then you can actually get into that conversation. You can listen to what is going on and create content specific to that audience based on their need.
There is a site that I like called HowSociable. If you take a key word or a keyword phrase and plug it into HowSociable, it will show you how much that keyword is being used in different social platforms. That is one of the tools you can use to identify where people are talking about a product or a brand that you sell. You can also see if your competitors are actually doing a lot of communications in that social network. I use HowSociable to really understand a landscape of the market and the keywords that are in that social market space. Once you are able to do that, you can leverage that information to attack or defend your position in that space.
