Little Black Bag

A lucky dip for online shopping! What mystery items will your Little Black Bag contain?

Do you ever experience the moment when you walk into a shop and become overwhelmed by all the options before you? Does this happen when you’re shopping online as well? This is a common occurrence in my day to day life. Sometimes I just wish that someone else could make the decisions for me.

Now someone can, thanks to new site, Little Black Bag. The site launched after receiving over $2 million from investors, including former Facebook executives Chamath Palihapitiya and Tim Kendall, and technology investor David Tisch.

The idea behind Little Black Bag is similar to the Japanese Fukubukuro sale that occurs at the beginning of every year. Japanese shops put mystery items into a bag that customers can buy without having any idea what they are purchasing. It’s like a lucky dip! The bags are extra enticing thanks to the generous discount and if shoppers decide they don’t like what they purchased – they can swap items with other shoppers! Fukubukuro translates mainly to ‘Lucky Bags’ but has also been known as ‘Mystery Bags’ or ‘Happy Bags’.

Upon reading about the concept of Fukubukuro, I was excited to try out Little Black Bag and see how similar it was. The Little Black Bag doesn’t pick items at random for the customer – they determine your style by a short quiz. Are you boho or hipster? Classic or fashionista? Do you like studded bags? Clutches? Rings? Earrings? The list goes on… Currently Little Black Bag offers accessories, jewellery, handbags and home goods, hopefully shoes and clothing will appear in the future.

You can pick your first item – then upon payment, the two mystery items are revealed!

If you don’t love one or both of your mystery items, you can trade them with other shoppers until you’re happy with the outcome!

Upon deciding you are happy, your purchase will be shipped to your door!

My only disappointment with the site was the fact that they don’t ship to Australia!
