By linking their Citi and Amazon accounts, Citi credit card holders enrolled in the Citi Rewards Program who shop at will be able to use their rewards points to pay for eligible purchases at checkout, but they can only redeem their points from Amazon’s US webstore.

With the ability to select from millions of products on, Citi cardholders can choose to pay for part, or all of their order with rewards points, and use their Citi Rewards credit card to pay the difference.Citi Australia’s head of cards and consumer lending, Alan Machet, says the partnership with Amazon is expected to be popular with Citi cardholders. “Australians’ fondness for online shopping continues to grow and Citi cardholders are no different. More than 88 per cent of Australians shopped online in 2016, spending an estimated $20.2 billion – with household goods, media, and personal items such as food and fashion trending upwards.

Machet says Citi wants to offer exclusive benefits as well as providing its cardholders with a variety of ways to seamlessly use their rewards points. “Whether it’s a complimentary bottle of wine when you dine with the Citi Dining Program or chance to win tickets to the football, partnerships such as this one with Amazon allow us to reward our cardholders with offers and benefits that they value.”

The announcement reinforces Citi’s objective to be increasingly relevant in digital ecosystems where the bank’s clients are more active. The Amazon partnership is also available for Citi cardholders in Malaysia, Mexico, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.
