Australian Mobile Sites Lag Behind International Competitors

A recent study by Keynote Systems, examining the mobile download speed and availability of some of Australia’s leading retailers portals revealed that international competitor counterparts outperform Australian sites.

Woolworths‘ was the highest ranking of the Australian sites tested (ranked 12th), followed by Myer (ranked 13th) and JB Hi-Fi (ranked 17th).

However, with download speed being one of the most important factors in mobile web browsing, the results of the study highlighted that the average download speeds of Australian mobile websites (between 8.81 to 15 seconds), was well behind other international retailers, such as Tesco’s mobile site, which boasted an average download time of just 4.39 seconds.

Keynote’s Australian mobile partner Shaun Dobbin, CEO of Gomeeki said, “The results of the index highlight the difficulties Australian consumers are encountering when attempting to access their favourite retailer’s products on mobile devices. I am hopeful Keynote’s mobile index will create increased awareness by retailers of the importance of developing efficient web sites for mobile devices and focus them on improvement in this area of their businesses”
