Daily Deals – Who The Hell Is Number One? Is It Me?

Who’s number one in group buying? Depends who you ask and what day – we offer a best-in-class research methodology to determine the market leaders of the group buying space. Now we just need to find someone who cares.
A few days ago we announced that, according to independent analyst Telsyte, Scoopon was the market leader for 2011. Today Living Social has piped up and said, “Sure, but we got the last six months of 2011, so nyah nyah Scoopon, you’re now third!” or words to that effect. Specifically:
“Claims that Scoopon are leading the industry are misleading and unrepresentative of the current market. According to Telsyte Scoopon has not been the top daily deal site for the last two quarters,” says Colin Fabig, CEO of Living Social.
Meanwhile, Groupon is second, for the last half of last year, and maybe the first half, or at least a little bit of it, the bit that Scoopon isn’t winning, which is the bit it’s winning when Living Social isn’t winning, and thank you Telsyte for the most meaningless and confusing figures in tracking Australia’s least interesting business chest-beating contest.
If you truly want an accurate, up-to-the-minute assessment of who is the current group buying market leader in Australia, we have come up with a methodology guaranteed to deliver accuracy.
1. Write the names Scoopon, Groupon, Living Social, Spreets and Cudo on separate pieces of paper.
2. Fold each piece and place in a cardboard box or other lightweight vessel large enough to accomodate five pieces of folded paper.
3. Hold the box above your head with one hand, and reach into the box with your other hand. Alternatively, you may utilise the services of a work colleague to reach into the box – or hold the box. Flexibility is a cornerstone of our methodology.
4. Withdraw one piece of paper.
5. Unfold it, take that name and place it in the number one market leading position on your dataset.
6. Repeat this process daily.

Maybe these website CEOs should focus on strategies to gain market rather than acting like an angry kid to the fact that they have lost it.
Good one Grant. The businesses should be focusing on growing their business and taking care of their customers, taking care of their customers and taking care of their customers instead of checking off bruised egos all the time!
One day group buying will be as inspiring as nail manufacturing and everyone will be focusing on the next best thing.
