US department store chain Nordstrom has embraced a customer-centric fulfillment strategy by offering shoppers free standard shipping and returns.
US retailer Nordstrom, Inc. has announced that it will offer customers free standard shipping and free return shipping on majority of orders placed on Nordstrom.com. The department store chain is doing this in an attempt to develop the customers shopping experience.
Customers can return items by using a pre-paid US Postal Service shipping label that is sent with their order.
In the past Nordstrom only offered free shipping for purchases over $200 or through special promotions. Now, the company will ship anywhere within the United States regardless of the size or cost of the purchase.
Jamie Nordstrom, President of Nordstrom Direct says the company is excited about its new free shipping policy. “Free shipping is reflective of how customers increasingly want to shop online and we hope this change makes it easier and more convenient to shop with us. We look forward to adding more features and functionality as we continue to improve the online experience.”
Nordstrom, Inc. is using 15% of its capital expenditure to make improvements on its e-commerce capabilities. In June it launched an enhanced mobile website to make it easier for customers using a smart phone to make purchases. Their Search by Store function allows customers to shop in real time, giving them access to the shared inventory of Nordstrom stores and Nordstsom.com.
The new shipping policy does not apply to international orders.
