Finalists Announced for 2013 Online Retail Industry Awards

Returning for its fourth year, the Online Retailer Industry Awards (ORIAs) has been keeping pace with the general pace of Australia’s e-commerce retail sector, presenting a more hotly contested list of nominees and finalists than previously.

Recognised as the local industry’s night-of-nights, the ORIAs is designed to celebrate the achievements and innovative strengths of local retailers in the APAC region. As such, they not only provide a standard for retailers to strive for in their online offerings, they also have established a crucial focus on what constitutes best practice for local online businesses.

The finalists list is populated by a stellar line-up of online retail brands, as well as an entirely new category: ‘Best Social Commerce Initiative’. The new category being introduced to recognise the retailers succeeding in using social networks to their advantage, whether that be through brand building, customer service or as a sales channel. Social integration into the online store experience has also been taken into consideration in naming the finalists for this particular category.

One of the finalists of the Social Commerce category, Beauty Corner blends branded cosmetics, great prices and targeted social marketing in order to sell product. Founder Issac Elnekave also developed the Dollar Cosmetic Club to generate traffic for both online and traditional retailers by creating an offer that works just as well in a virtual setting as it does in a local pharmacy. Even better, he’s leveraged the model to raise money for charities, with an event for the McGrath Foundation raising $44,735 dollars last year and another event rumoured to launch next week.

To find out more about how Beauty Corner and Dollar Cosmetic Club works, see the video at the end of this article.

“I think a social commerce category is an absolute necessity for any event like this,” Elnekave says. “The social space is evolving so rapidly and it’s only going to grow from here. For retailers, it’s not just about branding or a transactional channel, getting it right results in true customer engagement and the potential for the kind of loyalty that hasn’t really existed since online retail became so prevalent.

“I’m really looking forward to the ORIAs – it should be quite an event.”

The ORIAs cap off the region’s largest e-commerce event, the Online Retailer Conference & eCommerce Expo, to be held at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, August 19-22. The ORIAs gala evening is to be held at The Star on Wednesday 21 and will be hosted by award-winning technology journalist, Mark Jones.

Seems no one is bothered with ORIAS any more, only a handful of retailers here with too many repeats probably they got only a few nominations

Sounds good… But where is the recognition for suppliers to the ecommerce world? Perhaps, this could be a future category?
