Telstra to Launch 4G Phone First in Australia
- 20th January

The speedier, more efficient mobile consumer is just around the corner, with the launch of Australia’s first 4G enabled smartphone only days away.
Another reason for Australian retailers to utilise mobile as an active retail tool and channel sooner rather than later will be launched on the 24th of January – and that is Australia’s first 4G smartphone, the HTC Velocity 4G.
Featuring a massive 4.5 inch touchscreen, a 1.5 GHz dual core processor for speedy multi-tasking and an impressive 8 megapixel camera, the HTC Velocity 4G will be powered by Telstra, who launched 4G LTE mobile services last September. Currently Telstra 4G coverage is available in Australia’s eight capital city CBDs plus more than 80 regional and metropolitan centres. Outside of 4G coverage areas, the smartphone will automatically switch onto the Telstra 3G mobile network.
Velocity 4G users will experience download speeds up to five times faster and upload speeds up to three times faster than what is currently available on the fastest 3G handsets in Australia – and as domestic consumers adapt to this technology, it’s only going to create a demand for quicker and more efficient mobile website experiences.
