John Winning Honoured as Retail Executive of the Year

John Winning, CEO of Winning Group, was recognised as CEO Magazine’s Retail Executive of the Year for the third time last night at an event held in Darling Harbour, Sydney this week.

The CEO Magazine’s Executive of the Year Awards is one of Australia’s most prestigious business awards, recognising the individual excellence of senior executives. The Awards are aimed at celebrating the exceptional contribution made by the CEOs, managing directors, and senior management to their companies.

In 2012 Winning became CEO of Winning Group, a family-owned, Australian retail entity driven by a single-minded focus on the satisfaction of its clients and customers.

The retail group incorporates four distinct business entities: century-old traditional bricks and mortar retailer Winning Appliances, online retailer Appliances Online, Home Clearance and national installation company Handy Crew.

This is the fourth award John Winning has picked up at the CEO Magazine’s Executive of the Year Awards, having taken out the prestigious Young Executive of the Year award in 2012 and Retail Executive of the Year in 2013 and 2014.

Winning said the award is a great achievement that reflects the strength of the Group and his passion for creating innovative and enjoyable retail experiences.

“Retailers who continue to push boundaries and provide an innovative shopping experience will thrive. The Winning Group is a great example of an Australian business that has continued to adapt and evolve to a changing market,” said Winning.

“The success of the Winning Group lies in putting the customer first. I believe that customers want the choice of both bricks and clicks, however retailers need to think outside the box to offer something that elevates the shopping experience to the next level.”

“There’s no denying Australian retailers have been faced with tough trading conditions in recent years. However, despite this, the Winning Group has continued to innovate and provide exceptional customer service both online and in-store.”

Winning says he is extremely proud of the companies and the people he works for, pioneering the way for new retail experiences in Australia.

Appliances Online was founded by John Winning in 2005 with a laptop, a rented truck, and a 1300 number diverted to a mobile phone. A key component in his business start-up was the belief that online retailing is the only way to service the growing number of time-poor consumers who appreciate the efficiency of shopping online.

Appliances Online now employs upwards of 250 people and is one of Australia’s largest online retailers of appliances, and stocking a large selection of brands of whitegoods and appliances at competitive prices.
