Myer Launches Online Marketplace

Department chain Myer, which held its strategy day on 1st November has launched the testing phase of its new marketplace, The Myer Marketplace, and it’s currently putting out a call to sellers of home, entertainment and lifestyle products and experiences to populate it.

With the increasing popularity of marketplaces amongst consumers, online marketplaces have been referred to as “the new department store”, and Myer is taking that concept to heart.

The retailer says The Myer Market is a new online platform for customers to access a “carefully curated but extended range whilst retaining the comfort of Myer’s commitment to a great shopping experience”.

“Some of the world’s fastest-growing companies are marketplaces; selling products and services without owning the asset,” says Myer’s chief digital and data officer, Mark Cripsey.

“Myer has a tradition of curation and The Myer Market is an exciting new frontier, to leverage our brand and expand our range and offer as we continue to strive to provide our customers with innovative retail environments and experiences both in-store and online.”

Brands currently featured on the site include Rad Balloon, Lekker, Fitbit and Plyroom with product categories across health and beauty, experiences, kitchen and dining, wearable tech, adventure and luggage.

Myer says the website which is being developed in partnership with Marketplacer has been launched as a beta, allowing for further evolution and refinement which will be in response to direct customer and supplier feedback.

Myer is now encouraging Australian brands to get in contact with its team to discuss featuring on its new online platform.

All purchases on its new marketplace will qualify for Myer One (its loyalty membership program) loyalty points and rewards, and Myer’s ‘no regrets’ returns policy will apply, meaning customer returns on any products from The Myer Market, with the exception of bulky goods, will be accepted at Myer retail outlets.

  1. There are becoming too many marketplaces. I think 2018 will be a year of consolidation as it’s simply too much admin to be selling across more then 1 or 2 marketplaces
