No Love for Retailers This Valentine’s Day
- 8th February

The latest Heat Group survey has arrived. What will the numbers mean for your business this Valentine’s Day?
As the 14th of February rolls in, retailer’s have been hoping for an increase in sales to make up for a dreary Christmas period.
A recent Heat Group survey has unveiled the fact that a number of women will not be participating in the Valentine’s Day hype this year and therefore will not be spending at retail businesses. Of the 465 participants, over 50% have said that Valentine’s Day isn’t a big deal and 42% said that they and their partners do not buy gifts for one another.
Gillian Franklin, Founder and Managing Director of The Heat Group says that these figures won’t provide any relief for retailers.
“With the fall in the subdued retail sector in December, retailers are trying more than ever to maximise events, like Valentine’s Day, in an effort to boost sales. However with only a third of women planning to spend on gifts this Valentine’s Day retailers may face another let down. I encourage retailers to focus on the women who are planning to spend money on a Valentine’s gift,” says Franklin.
Will your business be doing anything special for Valentine’s Day this year to entice customers? If so – what will it be?
