As the countdown to Click Frenzy Mayhem ticks away, Criteo analysed its effect on Aussie retailers, and its benefit for the Australian e-commerce market.

One of Australia’s largest sales events, Click Frenzy, has seen a 45 per cent increase in sales and is expected to grow more than 37 per cent over the next three years, according to new research.

The Click Frenzy Mayhem sale will launch at 7:00 PM AEST Tuesday, 21st May, offering huge and exclusive discounts on apparel, technology and other products until midnight on Wednesday, 22nd May. Currently valued at over AUD$23 billion, the Australian e-commerce industry is set to hit more than AUD$40 billion in the next three years.

Criteo analysed traffic and sales data from 56 million e-commerce transactions from 151 Australian retailers and released the following statistics from Click Frenzy in 2018. Sales saw an increase from eight per cent to 45 per cent during the week of Click Frenzy alone, with conversion rates lifting from ten per cent to 15 per cent in that same week.

According to Click Frenzy, in 2018 there was a significant shift to mobile shopping, with 56 per cent of shoppers relying on their mobiles to secure the deals, with 33 per cent using desktops and 11 per cent using a tablet. In 2016, only 43 per cent of shoppers used mobiles on the site. As mobile shopping continues to be optimised by retailers and marketplaces, the rate of consumers grows alongside it. In the U.S, more than half of consumers who took part in Cyber Monday sales events purchased products on mobile, and is set to increase year on year, with ongoing advances in mobile shopping optimisation.

Half of Click Frenzy’s sales rely on mobile shoppers

Click Frenzy, known as the ‘Sale that Stops a Nation’, launched in November 2012, and was inspired by the successful Cyber Monday sales in the U.S. The second Click Frenzy event, Mayhem, was unveiled in 2015 with huge success. Click Frenzy has since launched ‘Travel Frenzy‘, a 24-hour sale dedicated to exclusive travel sales, with deals on hotels, flights, packages, tours and experiences.

As a result of the triumph behind the sales event, other retailers have capitalised on the large sales opportunity by releasing campaigns up to two weeks in advance to the Click Frenzy. As retailers involved understand the importance of optimising sales events to drive business growth and conversions with campaigns on mobile, along with supported website optimisation.

Click Frenzy Mayhem is set to launch May 21st, 2019, with exclusive and one-time offers on some of Australia’s biggest brands. The sale will only last for 28 hours.

DisclosureClick Frenzy Pty Ltd is owned by Global Marketplace, the parent company of Power Retail.
