In the retail world every month carries with it a new marketing opportunity. In February that means Valentine’s Day, meaning shoppers will soon be inundated with flowers, chocolates and assertions of love being in fact in the air.

- Online sales on Valentine’s Day 2014 lifted 8 percent higher than figures from 2013, driven by lifts in department store sales (38 percent), gifts (20), apparel (17) and beauty products (15).
- The holiday was worth up to $35 million in incremental revenue, with order value in the week preceding rising by nearly 12 percent and total conversions up almost a quarter.
