Retail payment platform, Afterpay has joined forces with retail management software, Vend to make alternative payment options more accessible to small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs).

The buy now, pay later solution, which is reportedly used by 14,000 retail merchants Australia-wide, has integrated with point of sale (POS) software provider, Vend, to allow SMEs to take advantage of the payment scheme that’s already heavily used by big-box retailers.

“We’re incredibly excited and pleased that we can now offer thousands of small businesses the ability to use Afterpay in-store. Vend’s intuitive, sophisticated software is the perfect platform to take Afterpay out to Australia’s independent retailers. Retail merchants can now benefit from the boost in sales that many are already experiencing with Afterpay online,” Fabio de Carvalho, the director of sales at Afterpay said.

Independent fashion retailer, búl has been using Afterpay online for a while and was among the first to trial the new software integration in-store.

“We’ve been using Afterpay through our online store for a while and are really excited we can now make it available to our in-store customers too,” said búl’s designer, Virginia Martin.

“We know it’s going to make a big difference to our in-store sales, and the unique and effortless experience we aim to offer our customers. That’s why we put our hand up to trial the new Vend integration, and we’ll be rolling it out across all of our seven stores as soon as we can.”

Small retailers will now be able to offer Afterpay in-store, as well as online, as long as customers already have, or are happy to sign up for an Afterpay account.

Afterpay believes its partnership with Vend will open up an entirely new in-store revenue stream for thousands of Australian retailers who previously couldn’t access the payment gateway in-store.
