The New and Improved Walmart Online

Walmart is enhancing its online offerings, with a new, more customer-centric website set to be launched within the next few weeks.

In a recent blog post, Walmart announced it will be unveiling the ‘new look’ Walmart website in May this year. The company’s CEO of US e-commerce, Marc Lore, believes the new website will create a “cleaner and more digital shopping experience.”

As part of the website’s new look and feel, the retail giant is introducing a more “human element” to the site by showcasing imagery that’s revolved around real-life moments.

“Our goal is to make it compelling for customers to shop for whatever they are looking for – whether they’re looking for diapers, laundry detergent or a new dining room table,” Lore wrote in his blog post.

The company has said the website’s new homepage will also be largely personalised for each user that visits the site.

“We’re introducing a new section that showcases top-selling items in a customer’s location. This area of the site will also feature a customer’s local store profile, including the availability of services such as Online Grocery, order status, and Easy Reorder.”

Walmart claims that specialty shopping experiences, offering a tailored online approach depending on what type of item a customer is looking at, will also be applied to the new site. For instance, customers will be presented with a different user interface if they’re just quickly re-buying household essentials to what they will see if they’re shopping for a new sofa.

However, Lore has emphasised that Walmart’s commitment to affordability is as strong as ever, which is why shoppers will have access to free, two-day shipping and free pickup from local store locations.

The new website launch comes after the company reported in February that its quarterly profits were below industry standards, which was largely attributed to a sharp dip in online sales growth. As a result of the less-than-promising results, Walmart’s stocks dropped by 7.02 percent in premarket trading.

With a goal of 40 percent e-commerce growth in the US in the current fiscal year, Lore hopes the new, more interactive website will help encourage consumers to spend more online.

Walmart’s updated website is slated to launch in early May, with Lore claiming the website is just the company’s first step towards improving the shopping experience for its loyal customer-base.
