Sportsgirl’s Augmented Reality: A Digital Window to Fashion

By Campbell Phillips | 06 Mar 2014

Sportsgirl is turning again to its shopfront windows to offer its customers a touchpoint for omnichannel shopping.

Australian fashion retailer Sportsgirl has announced a next-generation shopping innovation project with the launch of what it calls ‘digital windows’.

How Sportsgirl’s magazine works in conjunction with its augmented reality app.

Coinciding with the launch of Sportsgirl’s quarterly magazine, The Daily Us, as well as a new update for its augmented reality app, Sportsgirl Explore, the digital windows complete what is essentially an omnichannel shopping experience.

The retailer’s integrated platform is reportedly able to allow life-like interaction with products, free music downloads, shoppable pages and beauty tutorials all within the mobile app. However, both the app, magazine and digital windows can be used in tandem to create the most cohesive shopping experience.

Nine digital windows are launching throughout Australia, using projectors to display film onto the shopfronts. Already being rolled out, the windows will be available for viewing for four weeks.

Integral to the functionality behind these features, IE Agency has acted as Sportsgirl’s solutions partner to produce the latest augmented reality features and integration with the brand’s Magento-based store.

“The work Sportsgirl has been doing in the connected commerce space, of in-store digital, is evolving,” says Berry Driessen, General Manager for IE Agency. “IE is proud to be involved with such an innovative brand. Through introducing a Gift With Purchase option and a micro-site of music downloads in the new release, IE Agency have been working tirelessly with Sportsgirl to produce a best-of-breed solution.”

I tried this out last week from their app and printed catalogues. It worked a treat, seamless and very effective. Captivating content that got everyone talking. That’s a win in my opinion!
