Net-A-Porter has partnered with Parley for the Oceans, to highlight how fragile the earth’s oceans are, and the huge impact plastic waste has on them.
For the upcoming issue of PORTER magazine, Net-A-Porter has joined forces with Parley for the Oceans, a global collaboration network that’s pioneering a new approach to environmentalism, to show its support to the global fight against plastic pollution.
For the second year in a row, PORTER is committing itself to its mission of Content + Commerce + Cause, where the fashion retailer uses its online platform to raise awareness and encourage consumers to get on board what the brand considers to be a great cause.
“Content + Commerce + Cause collides three worlds to impact change,” PORTER’s Editor-in-Chief, Lucy Yeoman says. “This issue is dedicated to our beautiful seas and protecting our oceans.
“From the moment Parley first presented to our editorial team, each of us has been inspired to make changes to our own lives and PORTER is proud to make a commitment to an ongoing process of reducing plastic in our workplaces and practices. Using our editorial platform to highlight the cause and engage the powerful medium of fashion is a milestone in protecting our oceans.”
Shot in the Maldives, the new issue of Net-A-Porter’s magazine, PORTER, will feature a 63-page beach spread, which coincides with the start of summer in the UK. The location was chosen because the team at PORTER also decided to put their words into action, as they took part in a beach clean-up with the local community while they were there.
PORTER magazine promotes a plastic-free lifestyle through its collaboration with Parley for the Oceans.
According to Parley for the Oceans’ Ania Rubik, the images in the magazine’s latest shoot show the stark reality and vast impact of plastic pollution.
“The fashion community can drive the movement – we can create trends,” Rubik says.
According to Net-A-Porter, the brand will continue to support its partnership with Parley for the Oceans over a two-month campaign, which will be marketed in the magazine, across the businesses social platforms and on Porter.com.
On Monday, the fashion retailer also released Adidas X Parley sneakers and Clean Waves eyewear, which are all made by Plastic® by Parley at Net-A-Porter, which consumers can purchase in support of the cause.
To further encourage consumers to take the Parley AIR pledge to reduce plastic use and protect the life source that is our oceans, an exclusive Oceans Gala will be held in New York on June 7.
PORTER will also be going plastic-free by 2019, committing to delivering its magazines in paper envelopes, rather than plastic wrapping.
Net-A-Porter’s goal of reducing the use of plastic comes as retailers across Australia are gearing up for an official ban on single-use plastic bags, which will come into effect next month.
The latest issue of PORTER magazine is due to for release across the globe on Friday, June 1.
