Stan Announces Partnership With eBay Plus

In a move that mimics Amazon Prime’s retail and entertainment bundle, eBay has announced a new partnership with Australian streaming service, Stan.

Online marketplace, eBay has teamed up with Stan to give its Plus members access to Stan’s streaming service for three months as part of its loyalty program.
Starting on Monday, shoppers who join eBay Plus before October 31 will reportedly receive free access to Stan’s comprehensive library of movies and TV shows. Current eBay Plus members will also be able to take advantage of the sign-up deal, as existing members will also be eligible to receive the three-month streaming membership. Existing Stan customers who sign up to eBay Plus will get a three-month upgrade to a premium Stan plan.
“eBay is Australia’s biggest online marketplace, and is a great brand fit for Stan,” Chief Executive, Mike Sneesby said. “Both companies provide provide great value for money to Aussie consumers, which is what this partnership is all about.”

eBay Plus members currently have access to free delivery and returns on millions of Plus items, as well as exclusive new deals, including the perks of this new entertainment bundle. According to Tim MacKinnon, the managing director at eBay Australia and New Zealand, this partnership is a natural next step for both businesses.
“We know Australians love the benefits that come with an eBay Plus membership… Partnering with Stan is a way of providing even more value to our customers,” he said.
The online marketplace’s new entertainment bundle is not dissimilar to the entertainment perks of its main rival’s membership pack. When Amazon launched Prime in Australia earlier this year, it offered a subscription to its privately-owned streaming service, Prime Video, as part of the membership price.
This isn’t the first time eBay has upped its ante to compete with the global powerhouse since it broke into the Australian marketplace almost a year ago. eBay initially launched its Plus membership to counteract the pending effects of Amazon’s Prime membership back in May.
Since introducing its loyalty program, eBay has added a number of perks, including an FBA-style delivery service and point accumulation for flybuys members. One of the main differences between eBay’s and Amazon’s local strategies is that eBay is forming partnerships with local, Australian businesses, while Amazon continues to take advantage of its global network.
The eBay Plus and Stan membership bundle will reportedly be available from Monday, October 15 until October 31. According to eBay representatives, new members who take advantage of the exclusive sign-up deal will also receive a bonus $20 gift card.
